How to Fight Anxiety – Recognizing Obsession

If you are looking to fight anxiety, it would be a worthwhile step to first recognize our personal obsession with everything that goes on around us, and also within of ourselves. Many anxiety sufferers have a very similar mindset, and obsession is a common occurrence. If you wish to fight anxiety, recognizing this problem will do lots for you in terms of your own personal development and happiness.

When speaking of obsession in terms of how to fight anxiety, it would probably be very good to see how closely it relates to the concept of ‘perfectionism.’ When we as anxiety sufferers obsess, it is usually over something that falls short of our lofty standards. Whether it be the product of our efforts, such as our work, or how we perceive that others perceive us, in the mind of the anxiety sufferer, everything has to either be perfect, or run perfectly.

To fight anxiety, we need to realize that it is okay to relax a little. For instance, constantly obsessing over how the paint job on our house looks will do nothing for us in the long run. Sure, if the paint job looks terribly awkward then it is best to do something about it. However, for anxiety sufferers, it is usually the tiniest of details that bother us. Learn to look at these details as quirks, and you’ll find your obsessive nature and thus anxiety soon start to subside.

Amongst sufferers of anxiety, another very frequent desire is the need to feel accepted and well-received by others, a trait magnified by our tendency to obsess. Have you ever over analyzed something that an acquaintance has said to you to the point of death, only to later find out that it was a meaningless comment? Very frequently we can blow past events way out of the water, in a worry that somebody doesn’t see us as our ‘perfect’ self. Remember, everyone has their quirks, which is what makes us human – none of us are truly perfect.

If it is your desire to fight anxiety, then it is important that you recognize just how obsessive you can be, and how it always links to a form of ‘perfectionism’ in one way or another. Remember, when we go over a piece of work with a fine comb, we are usually doing it for the things nobody else would notice – relax a little! In addition, be happy with the quirks that you have – everybody has their own, and only those dealing with their own issues will be passing negative judgment on them. Taking these two factors into consideration will allow you to live a carefree and happy life, free of anxiety.
